Scotland | Slateford House 1770: the meeting point between past and present, in Edinburgh

An old white house called Slateford House

A fortified house on Lanark Road, built to last in 1770 to withstand possible Jacobite attacks on Edinburgh, has been transformed into a stunning guesthouse.

Located in the heart of the city’s historic centre, I find it to be the perfect refuge for couples and families with children, the place you must go if you want to feel at home, away from home. We had a memorable stay, because yes: it was our choice for a city break in Edinburgh at the end of October 2023.

The guesthouse has six self-catering apartments, with 1, 2 or 3 bedrooms, each with a well-equipped kitchen. As simple as they are elegant. Welcoming, they are dedicated to relaxation and enjoyment, offering enough space for common activities. In the decoration of the rooms, the classic line meets the modern one, leaving room for over 250 years of history, texture and colour contrasts enliven the interiors, while the oak wood adds warm notes to the environment.

Which apartment have I booked? The Artist Sanctuary is an apartment designed on three levels, with 2 bedrooms – each with a double bed, 2 impeccable bathrooms, a modern kitchen and a living area with an extendable sofa.
